Dancing With The Stars is a series based on the format of Strictly Come Dancing, a British TV series. As of right now the format is licensed in more than 42 territories. According to Television Business International magazine the show was the world's most popular television program among all genres in 2006 and 2007.
The show pairs professional ballroom dancers with a number of well known celebrities, who compete each week by performing one or more choreographed routines, of a chosen theme. The dancers are then scored by a panel of judges, viewers are given the opportunity to vote for their favorite dancers either online or by telephone depending on the country in which the show is aired.
The couple that has the lowest combined score provided by the viewers and judges is eliminated. This process continues until there are only two or three couples left. When they have competed for the last time one couple is then declared the champion.
