You don't want your character's eating breakfast in Hong Kong, lunch in France, and dinner in Hawaii, because by the end of Act 1 you will have spent your budget. Do you have to take your characters to Hollywood to discover what they could just easily find down the block or in their backyard for a fraction of the cost? Not locations but characters make good movies. You can take uninteresting characters to a great location, and you will still end up with uninteresting characters.Watch out for costly effects. If you really do need them then use them, but a 100 thousand dollar amazing movie is going to be picked up a lot faster than a 10 million dollar amazing movie.
If your interest begin to dwindle halfway through your screenplay then you are losing passion. The subject should be enough to drive you on. Your passion is what will determine if your script becomes a movie or not. If you get bored or scared and try to transform your story into what you think others believe is hot then your story is already doomed. Passion must first come from you in order to enter your story.
